When you go to a football game, most often you spend lots of time watching the quarterback, and what he does with the ball, pass, run or hand it off. When you go to a game that has # 10 Berislav Zbozinek, of the Arizona Thunder playing, you had best keep an eye on him. This 6’1” 190 lb kicker has a knack for sending the ball a mile every time he kicks it. Born in Walnut, California (outside of LA) this young man attended Brophy College Preparatory High School, Phoenix, where he played some baseball but spent most of his time on the soccer pitch (that is what they call a soccer field). At Brophy he found his passion is this internationally popular sport. He lettered two years and was chosen “All State” during his junior year. He also was chosen 1st Team in his Region. Injuries prevented him from playing during his senior year. After graduating from Brophy in 2002, Berislav traveled back to his roots outside of Los Angles, attending Claremont McKenna College. A Div. III college, he obtained a bachelors degree in International Relations, but while attending Claremont, he represented the Stags with his excellent play of soccer on the pitch. After graduating in 2006, he returned to Phoenix, where he met Cedric Jones while working for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. One thing lead to another and as these two men talked football, Cedric invited Berislav to the Copper Football League. In 2007 he joined the Talons to play as their kicker. In his first football game , he hit the game winning field foal to help the Talons defeat the Tucson Blaze 3–0 in overtime. After one year with the Talons, he moved on to the Arizona Thunder, where he has impressed all who watched him kick the ball. There are some who say that NASA is impressed with how he can launch the ball with his powerful leg! Currently Berislav is employed with a local software company and will attend ASU in the Fall, where he will enroll in the MBA (Masters in Business Administration) program. After completion of his ASU studies, Berislav would like to find work with a major sports oriented company. He plans to stay in the CFL as he has found a new passion, football. His mom was born in Karlovac, Croatia. She earned her PhD from California Institute of Technology and is currently employed as an environmental consultant. His dad, born in Zagreb, Croatia, is in the real estate business. These two parents are very proud of their son because this young man has a plan, and so far it has been working for him. You have caught the attention of this writer and many fans in the stands. We all look forward to seeing more of you on the field sir. |
